I couldn't agree with you more. The fact that most everyone who has either seen it or has heard about the show has agreed that these people are obviously misguided. But isn't that letting them off the hook too easily?
I mean seriously. Handling deadly snakes? Where do we draw the line? Is suicide terrorism just as acceptable then because in a sense they are getting closer to Allah? Is anything that provides a spiritual experience absolved of blame?
Obviously in snake handling there IS a chance of surviving and in suicide terrorism there is not. But religious organizations CONDONE suicide terrorism just as these snake handling churches CONDONE their activities.
Temptation. Punishment. These don't reflect strenghth in faith anywhere close to something as simple as planting a tree. But what should WE do about them. Nothing? or Jihad?
